What Is Line Boring?

Line boring is a precision machining process used to repair or restore bores that have become worn, ovaled, damaged, or misaligned over time. The process allows the bore to be machined back to the correct size, shape, and alignment so pins, bushings, and moving components can fit and operate properly again.

When required, worn areas can be built back up with weld repair before machining the bore back to specification.

Our Process

Each Line Boring job is assessed based on the equipment, bore size, wear condition, access, and required repair. Depending on the scope, the work may include setup, alignment, bore measurement, weld build up, machining, test fitting, and final inspection.

If the bore is worn beyond tolerance, weld build up may be completed before machining. If pins or bushings are being replaced, those measurements should be confirmed before final machining.
